Frequently asked questions

My debt counsellor took my money but did nothing — what can I do?

Debt counsellors are registered with and regulated by the National Credit Regulator (NCR). Taking fees without submitting an NCR proposal or court application is a serious breach. File a complaint here and we will guide you to the NCR and Credit Ombud.

Can I get a refund from my debt counsellor?

If a counsellor charged fees beyond the prescribed maximums or failed to deliver the service, you can demand a refund. Logging it on CRESA creates a record and formally notifies the company.

How do I get out of debt review or get my clearance certificate?

If your counsellor refuses to issue a clearance certificate or remove the debt review flag after you have settled, that is a common and resolvable complaint. File it and we will help you escalate.
